Risk factors for and management of anterior chamber intravitreal dexamethasone implant migration
BMC Ophthalmology Jun 04, 2019
Röck D, et al. - Researchers examined the incidence of the anterior chamber migration of an intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex) in addition to assessing the associated risk factors. At the University Eye Hospital in Tübingen, Germany, 640 consecutive intravitreal dexamethasone implant injections performed were retrospectively reviewed. Outcomes revealed the anterior chamber migration of an intravitreal dexamethasone implant as a serious complication. They recommend performing immediate removal of the implant with a 20-gauge alligator forceps over a 2.75-mm long clear corneal tunnel to reduce the risk of permanent corneal edema. Risk of anterior chamber dexamethasone implant migration was higher in those patients with insufficient zonular support, defects, or missing posterior capsular membranes and vitrectomy histories.
