Risk factors and prevention of peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis
Peritoneal Dialysis International Mar 15, 2019
Gadola L, et al. - A cohort of chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, older than 16 years, was retrospectively analyzed to determine peritonitis risk factors and to assess its prevention with a new peritoneal educational program (NPEP) in these subjects. Overall 222 cases (219 patients, 128 men), median age 59 (interquartile range [IQR] 47.0 – 72.0) years were included. The median time on PD was 17.5 (IQR 6.0 – 36.2) months. Significant associations of survival to first peritonitis, with age and the NPEP, were revealed in the multivariate Cox analysis of peritonitis risk factors. Peritonitis rates could be improved via a multidisciplinary peritoneal educational program, independently of other risk factors.
