Risk factors affecting post-pubertal high serum follicle-stimulating hormone in patients with hypospadias
World Journal of Urology Mar 05, 2019
Moriya K, et al. - In view of the lack of understanding regarding the factors affecting spermatogenesis in adulthood in patients with hypospadias (HS), researchers evaluated risk factors affecting post-pubertal high serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in these patients. Among those with a history of HS surgery, researchers analyzed 79 patients in whom endocrinological evaluation regarding pituitary–gonadal axis was performed at 15 years of age or older between March 2004 and April 2018. The severity of HS was mild in 35 and severe in 44. In patients with HS, post-pubertal high serum FSH was observed in a significant correlation with a history of undescended testis (UDT). Accordingly, impaired spermatogenesis could be predicted with the presence of UDT in patients with HS, especially in severe cases.
