Rheumatoid arthritis patients' oral health and disease activity
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases May 14, 2019
Radwan-Oczko M, et al. - Researchers sought to describe Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients' self-reported oral health. In addition, they examined how it is associated with RA disease activity. Among the 300 eligible patients under treatment for RA from the Division of Rheumatology, Clinical Medicine, North Jutland Region Hospital, Hjørring, Denmark, 164 provided completed answers to the emailed questionnaires; 61% female; mean age was 65 ± 11 years. As per the status of oral cavity reported by Danish patients, there was a significant proportion who had symptoms of gingival/periodontal disease, which may have a negative influence on RA activity and disease management. This emphasizes the significance of cooperation between rheumatologists and dentists in oral health management in periodontal inflammation.
