Rheumatoid arthritis–interstitial lung disease in the United States: Prevalence, incidence, and healthcare costs and mortality
The Journal of Rheumatology Apr 04, 2019
Raimundo K, et al. - Using the Truven Health MarketScan Commercial and Medicare Supplemental health insurance databases from 2003 to 2014 and the Social Security Administration death database, authors estimated the prevalence, incidence, healthcare costs, and mortality of rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-related interstitial lung disease (ILD) (RA-ILD) in the US. They noted an incline in the prevalence of RA-ILD from 3.2 to 6.0 cases per 100,000 people across the 10-year period with an incidence ranged from 2.7 to 3.8 cases per 100,000 people. They recorded an inpatient admission of 72% of cases whereas 76% had an emergency room visit. They noticed a relationship between RA-ILD and decreased survival. They reported healthcare use and costs stable over time for subjects who could be followed over a 5-year period.
