Retinal vascular changes in preterm infants: Heart and lung diseases and plus disease
Journal of AAPOS Nov 08, 2017
Arriola-Lopez AE, et al. - This study was conducted to investigate if congenital heart disease (CHD), lung disease (pulmonary hypertension [PH] and bronchopulmonary dysplasia [BPD]), and ROP with plus disease in preterm infants can be distinguished based on their retinal morphology and, therefore, researchers studied the retinal vascular features of preterm infants with these disease entities. Findings indicated that the pattern of retinal vascular tortuosity in preterm infants may be differentiated in systemic congestive conditions such as CHD, lung diseases, and ROP plus disease, which could have therapeutic implications.
