Retinal findings in hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19
British Journal of Ophthalmology Oct 21, 2020
Pereira LA, Soares LCM, Nascimento PA, et al. - Using dilated eye examination, researchers sought retinal findings possibly related to SARS-CoV-2 infection in hospitalized patients with confirmed severe COVID-19. In this cross-sectional study, 18 hospitalized patients [nine (50%) male, median IQR age of 62.5 (12) years] with confirmed severe COVID-19 were included and were assessed via dilated eye examination of both eyes performed by a retina specialist. Findings revealed acute vascular lesions of the inner retina, including flame-shaped hemorrhages and cotton wool spots, in patients with severe COVID-19.
