Retinal detachment after endophthalmitis: Risk factors and outcomes
Clinical Ophthalmology Apr 16, 2021
Wang T, Moinuddin O, Abuzaitoun R, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study for analyzing the risk factors, clinical course, and visual and anatomic outcomes of retinal detachment (RD) after endophthalmitis. Between August 2014 and May 2019, 108 patients diagnosed with endophthalmitis at a single tertiary referral center were analyzed. Data reported that the incidence of RD after endophthalmitis was 14.8%. It was noted that the rate of final retinal re-apposition for the RD cohort was 56.3%. After endophthalmitis, the anatomic and functional outcomes for RD are still low, with a high risk of permanent vision loss. In cases of RD after endophthalmitis, aphakia and posterior synechiae were more common.
