Reproducibility of microperimeter 3 (MP-3) microperimetry in open-angle glaucoma patients
Ophthalmic Research Aug 28, 2019
Leisser C, et al. - In patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), a chronic progressive optic neuropathy that results in retinal ganglion cells degeneration and characteristic morphological changes in the optic disc, researchers conducted this prospective monocenter study to evaluate the reproducibility of microperimetry compared with standard automated perimetry (SAP). Study participants included patients suffering from POAG with visual field defects in the central 20° zone. It was possible to analyze data from 18 patients from 19 recruited patients. There was no significant difference in mean retinal sensitivity in microperimetry and SAP between study visits. Data reported that the intraclass-correlation coefficient was 0.981 for microperimetry and 0.948 for SAP. According to findings, high reproducibility was demonstrated by microperimetry and conventional perimetry, with slightly better microperimetry results. However, microperimetry's reduced visual field angle limits its application to central glaucomatous field damage.
