Renal outcomes of idiopathic and atypical membranous nephropathy in adult Chinese patients: A single center retrospective cohort study
BMC Nephrology Apr 28, 2021
Jiang Z, Cai M, Dong B, et al. - Researchers herein summarize the features of response to treatment as well as kidney function results between the idiopathic membranous nephropathy (iMN) and atypical membranous nephropathy (aMN) patients, in a single center cohort. Worsening kidney function, defined as a 30 % or more reduction in eGFR or end-stage renal disease (eGFR < 15ml/min/1.73m 2 ), was the primary outcome. Total 298 patients received the diagnosis of membranous nephropathy and were followed for 1 year or more, including 145 iMN cases with an average observation span of 4.5 ± 2.6 years, and 153 aMN cases with 4.1 ± 2.0 years. In iMN patients, the noted average age was older vs aMN patients. Presence of nephrotic range proteinuria as well as absence of previous immunosuppressive treatment was seen in 99 iMN patients and 105 aMN patients. Findings showed similar proteinuria remission rates as well as renal outcomes between iMN and aMN patients following adjustment for covariables.
