Remission of hypertension after surgical cure of Cushing Syndrome
Clinical Endocrinology Nov 20, 2019
Jha S, et al. - During one-year after surgical cure of Cushing syndrome (CS), researchers characterized the time-course and predictors of blood pressure (BP) normalization. The sample consisted of 75 hypertensive adults cured of CS (72 with ACTH-dependent CS; 3 with adrenal adenoma). According to this retrospective chart review, longer estimated the duration of CS, younger age, and lower baseline BMI predicted hypertension remission. The authors discovered that approximately 80% of CS patients experienced BP normalization or improvement within 10-days of cure, but nearly half did not normalize BP by one year. They suggested that BP should be monitored after cure, and anti-hypertensive medications adjusted to avoid unwanted cardiovascular effects.
