Relationship between the retinacula cutis and sagging facial skin

Sakata A, et al. - This trial conducted an assessment of the mechanisms underlying sagging skin, with emphasis on the subcutaneous network of collagenous fibers known as the retinacula cutis (RC). It was determined that a sparse RC structure contributed to a reduction in the elasticity of subcutaneous tissue. This, in turn, led to a greater degree of sagging facial skin. The yielded data possibly aided in comprehending the mechanisms underlying sagging skin.
