Relationship between soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor and serum biomarkers of endothelial activation in patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome
Clinical Kidney Journal Jan 26, 2020
Roca N, Jatem E, Martín ML, et al. - In order to determine whether soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) levels are associated with endothelial activation or dysfunction in idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) patients, researchers undertook this observational, cross-sectional analysis, wherein, they assessed the link between serum levels of endothelial biomarkers and suPAR in patients with distinct histological patterns of INS and healthy controls, as well as examined demographic, clinical and biochemical features of INS patients that impact serum levels of suPAR. Cases with INS, with a renal biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of minimal change disease (MCD), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) or membranous nephropathy (MN) were examined. Raised circulating levels of endothelial markers were found in patients with nephrotic syndrome (n = 152) induced by FSGS, MCD or MN. Findings revealed that circulating levels of suPAR were independent of the primary renal disease in patients with INS secondary to FSGS, MCD and NM, and the levels significantly related to age, glomerular filtration rate and the levels of several endothelial markers.
