Relationship between serum sclerostin, vascular sclerostin expression and vascular calcification assessed by different methods in ESRD patients eligible for renal transplantation: A cross-sectional study
International Urology and Nephrology Dec 07, 2018
Min Li, et al. - Given the prevalence of vascular calcification (VC) in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and involvement of sclerostin in the cross-talk between the kidney, vasculature, and bone, researchers evaluated vessel sclerostin expression and its correlation with VC, as well as serum sclerostin levels in ESRD patients eligible for renal transplantation. They analyzed a total of 51 adult ESRD patients undergoing living donor renal transplant (RT). In this work, high consistency was noted between the two methods to evaluate VC, namely computed tomography and pathology. In ESRD patients eligible for RT, serum sclerostin was noted to be an independent determinant of positive expression of vessel sclerostin and VC.
