Relationship between recurrence of macular edema due to branch retinal vein occlusion and changes in choroidal thickness
Ophthalmic Research Oct 21, 2020
Sakanishi Y, Tamaki K, Mashimo K, et al. - In this retrospective consecutive case series, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between recurrence of macular edema due to branch retinal vein occlusion and changes in choroid thickness (CT). Participants in the study were patients with recurrence of macular edema within 6 months of receiving intravitreal aflibercept injection treatment for naive macular edema due to branch retinal vein occlusion at Juntendo University Urayasu Hospital. This study involved 11 patients and 11 eyes. The CT around the macula after initial treatment was significantly reduced in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion, although there were site-dependent variations in the changes observed in the CT at the time of macular edema recurrence and reinjection. Such results show that there are distinct pathologies of macular edema at the initial incidence and at the time of recurrence.
