Relationship between airway obstruction and incidence of metabolic syndrome in Korea: A community-based cohort study
International Journal of COPD Jul 04, 2018
Kim CY, et al. - Researchers used data from a community-based cohort, the Ansung–Ansan cohort, to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in subjects with airway obstruction. They used 4-year follow-up data from a total of 6,184 adults, who were ≥ 40 years of age and underwent spirometry. Forced expiratory volume in 1 second/forced vital capacity ratio < 70% was used as the definition for airway obstruction and the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III guidelines were used to assess MetS. Findings revealed a higher incidence of MetS in men with airflow obstruction than in healthy subjects.
