Regular exercisers have stronger pelvic floor muscles than non-regular exercisers at midpregnancy
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jan 05, 2018
Bø K, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of vaginal resting pressure, pelvic floor muscle strength and endurance in regular exercisers (exercise ≥ 30 minutes ≥ 3 times per week) and non-exercisers at mid-pregnancy. In addition, they looked for an association of regular general exercise or pelvic floor muscle strength with urinary incontinence. At mid pregnancy, regular exercisers had stronger pelvic floor muscles than their sedentary counterparts. However, urinary incontinence was associated with pelvic floor muscle strength but not with regular general exercise. Additional studies seemed required in elite athletes and women performing more strenuous exercise regimens.
