Reduced prevalence of severe intraventricular hemorrhage in very preterm infants delivered after maternal preeclampsia

Neonatology Jun 28, 2018

Morsing E, et al. - In this retrospective study, the researchers assessed neonatal morbidity in very preterm (VPT) infants exposed to maternal preeclampsia (PE) compared to morbidity in nonexposed VPT infants. Between 1998 and 2014, all inborn infants delivered before 30 gestational weeks admitted to a tertiary-level Neonatal Intensive Care Unit were involved. It was observed that fetal exposure to PE was correlated with a reduced rate of severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) following VPT birth. In the VPT infant, studies on underlying mechanisms might provide a basis for prevention of IVH.
