Recent national trends and outcomes in total ankle arthroplasty in the United States
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Jul 24, 2018
Rybalko D, et al. - Experts evaluated the national trends in usage and perioperative outcomes of total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) in the United States. They gathered the patient demographics, comorbidities, hospitalization length, discharge disposition, blood transfusion, lower extremity deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and mortality data. They noted no significant change in discharge patterns with time. Over the past 14 years, in the United States, nearly 50% increase in the usage of TAA has been seen. Findings suggested a correlation of TAA with shorter hospitalization, infrequent rehabilitation facility requirements, and few perioperative complications.
