American Journal of Ophthalmology Dec 18, 2017
Varadaraj V, et al. - This study entailed the analysis of the impact of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) on short out-loud and sustained-silent reading speeds, and reading comprehension. Researchers divulged that AMD patients read slower than controls when forced to read out loud. Both groups exhibited similar speeds when asked to read silently over a longer duration. However, AMD patients displayed considerably lower comprehension scores, pointing out that they chose to sacrifice comprehension for speed.
