Randomized prospective comparative study of adductor canal block vs periarticular infiltration on early functional outcome after unilateral total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Jun 06, 2019
Kulkarni M, et al. - Researchers compared the efficacy of periarticular infiltration (PAI) vs adductor canal block (ACB) for pain management in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In addition, they assessed their impact on early functional outcome. They allocated 100 patients undergoing unilateral primary TKA for symptomatic Osteoarthritis to either of the two groups (50 in each arm) in this single-blind randomized controlled trial. Outcomes revealed the achievement of better pain control using PAI vs ACB in patients undergoing unilateral TKA. The PAI had significantly longer tourniquet time and operative time compared to ACB
