Randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled split face trial of the efficacy of tranexamic acid by drug delivery through microneedling in the treatment of melasma
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Jun 07, 2021
Arida DKK, Rebellato PRO, de Campos GLM, et al. - In this randomized controlled double-blind split face trial, researchers assessed the effectiveness of tranexamic acid, a hydrophilic synthetic substance derived from the amino acid lysine, when applied in the form of drug delivery through microneedling in the treatment of facial melasma. The sample consisted of 20 melasma patients with a mean age of 42.25 years. Microneedling was performed on the entire face, followed by the application of TA solution to one hemiface and placebo to the other. The use of TA in drug delivery via microneedling did not improve the treatment of melasma.
