Radiological prediction of positive circumferential resection margin in oesophageal cancer
European Journal of Radiology Sep 06, 2018
Foley KG, et al. - Given that a positive circumferential resection margin (CRM) is considered to be an indicator of poor prognosis in esophageal cancer (OC), researchers evaluated the additional predictive value of PET-defined tumor variables vs EUS and CT T-stage, as well as assessed the prognostic value of CRM status in this retrospective study. Participants in the study were 117 consecutive patients treated between March 1, 2012 and July 31, 2015. It was noted that the CRM was positive in 43.6%. Findings suggested a correlation between advanced EUS T-stage and a positive CRM. However, it is not likely that PET-defined tumor variables would give additional prognostic information. This investigation showed the continued benefit of EUS as part of a multi-modality OC staging pathway.
