Radiologic parameters of ankylosing spondylitis patients treated with anti-TNF-α vs nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and sulfasalazine
European Spine Journal Apr 12, 2019
Son SM, et al. - A total of 133 subjects were estimated to examine the radiologic characteristics of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) cases treated with anti-tumor necrosis factor-α (anti-TNF-α) vs nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and sulfasalazine (SSZ). Significantly higher mean erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), Bath AS Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), and thoracic kyphosis at baseline were reported in candidates treated with anti-TNF-α treatment (group B). Significantly higher lumbar lordosis (LL) and significantly better clinical outcomes were noted in group B following therapy. They recorded significant associations between radiologic parameters and BASDAI. They quantified lumbar lordosis as a significant predictor of clinical outcome in AS subjects managed with anti-TNF-α
