Race, obesity, and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system: Treatment response in children with primary hypertension
Pediatric Nephrology Sep 05, 2017
South AM, et al. – This study planned to describe the effect of patient characteristics such as obesity and race on treatment outcomes in pediatric primary hypertension (HTN). Especially in nonobese and white patients, pretreatment aldosterone and plasma renin activity (PRA) predicted short–term follow–up BP and left ventricular mass index (LVMI). In addition, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) profile could guide treatment of HTN, and it indicated consideration of angiotensin–converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers as first–line treatment options.
