Race and insurance status are associated with surgical management of isolated meniscus tears

Schairer WW, et al. - In patients with meniscus tears, experts performed a population-level analysis to assess the impact of socioeconomic markers on the use of meniscus surgery. Regarding surgical treatment, both insurance-based and race-based disparities were suggested. Moreover, for surgical management the strongest variable was a meniscus tear being first diagnosed by a surgeon. On multivariable analysis, an independent association between female sex, non-white race, and public or self-pay insurance lower rates of meniscus surgery were noted.
