Quantitative evaluation of primary retinitis pigmentosa patients using colour Doppler flow imaging and optical coherence tomography angiography
Acta Ophthalmologica Apr 17, 2019
Wang XN, et al. - In this prospective series of case study, 40 eyes of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) cases and 26 eyes of normal volunteers were examined to analyze the possible relationship between variations in retinal large vessels as well as terminal vessels using colour Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and also to study the respective benefits of CDFI vs OCTA in evaluation of vascular changes in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) cases. They noticed a significant reduction in subjects with RP vs controls according to Colour Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) and OCTA parameters. Detection of vision-related microvascular and thickness changes around the macula between high- and low-vision groups (which happen earlier than the changes in large vessels) was feasible with OCTA. They suggested the significant efficiency of OCTA in the diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression in RP cases along with good repeatability and reproducibility.
