Quality of life following vaginal reconstructive vs obliterative surgery for treating advanced pelvic organ prolapse
International Urogynecology Journal Jul 19, 2018
Petcharopas A, et al. - Quality of life (QOL) in women after colpocleisis was assessed and was compared with that of women after reconstructive vaginal surgery for treating advanced pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Researchers undertook a retrospective cohort study including women (aged 35–85 years) with POP who underwent obliterative or reconstructive surgical correction during 2009–2015. Findings suggest that in selected patients with advanced POP colpocleisis improves condition-specific QOL, suggesting it as an option for this group. They recommend surgeons to consider counseling elderly women with advanced POP about obliterative vaginal surgery.
