Quality of life among patients with moderate to advanced chronic kidney disease in Ghana: A single centre study
BMC Nephrology Apr 11, 2019
Tannor EK, et al. - In this cross sectional observational study, researchers evaluated quality of life (QOL) in 202 patients (118[58.5%] males) with moderate to advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) (not on dialysis) and investigated its determinants. They run this study at the renal outpatient clinic at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The mean age of the participants was 46.7 ± 16.2 years. They analyzed demographic, clinical and laboratory data and administered a pretested self-administered Research and Development corporation (RAND®) 36-Item Health Survey questionnaire and assessed QOL scores in physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS). They found low-income status and poor QOL in patients with moderate to advanced CKD. These patients presented with advanced disease. The factors that were significantly associated with poor QOL were anaemia and low-income status.
