Psychometric evaluation of the Barriers to Healthy Eating scale: Results from four independent weight loss studies
Obesity Apr 26, 2019
Sun R, et al. - In four independent weight-loss studies conducted over 13 years, researchers assessed the psychometric properties of the 22-item Barriers to Healthy Eating (BHE) scale. To determine the underlying factor structure, they performed principal axis factoring with promax rotation. The total and subscale scores of BHE and Weight Efficacy Lifestyle were all negatively correlated, suggesting good convergent validity. BHE change was linked to weight loss between 0 and 6 months. Over time, the BHE scale demonstrated very good psychometric properties, supporting its use in measuring barriers to one's ability to adopt or maintain a healthy eating plan.
