Prophylactic incisional negative pressure wound therapy reduces the risk of surgical site infection after caesarean section in obese women: A pragmatic randomised clinical trial
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Aug 12, 2018
Hyldig N, et al. - Researchers evaluated surgical site infections by prophylactic incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy vs standard postoperative dressings in obese women giving birth by caesarean section via performing a randomised multicentre controlled trial. They applied incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy to 432 women and a standard dressing to 444 women. The women with incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy showed a reduced risk of surgical site infection. Incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy led to a significant reduction in wound exudate, however, there appeared no difference for dehiscence and quality of life between the two groups.
