Prophylactic antibiotics in the prevention of infection after operative vaginal delivery (ANODE): A multicentre randomised controlled trial
The Lancet Jun 19, 2019
Knight M, et al. - Via a blinded, randomised controlled trial done at 27 UK obstetric units and 3,427 women, the contributors targeted to investigate whether antibiotic prophylaxis could prevent maternal infection after operative vaginal birth. Two women reported other allergic reactions in the amoxicillin and clavulanic acid group, one of which was reported as a serious adverse event. However, no serious adverse events were recorded related to the treatment. Hence, the observers concluded the benefit of a single dose of a prophylactic antibiotic after operative vaginal birth.
