Prolonged operative time of repeat cesarean is a risk marker for post-operative maternal complications
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Dec 08, 2018
Rottenstreich M, et al. - Researchers investigated how prolonged operative time (OT; skin incision to closure) is related to post-operative maternal complications among women undergoing repeat cesarean delivery (CD). In a single tertiary center, researchers performed a cross-sectional retrospective study of all women who underwent repeat CD excluding those with cesarean hysterectomy. They identified a total of 6507 repeat CDs. Findings revealed a strong association of prolonged OT with: post-operative blood transfusion, prolonged hospitalization, infection necessitating antibiotics, and readmission when compared to control.
