Prognostic value of the mitogen response in the interferon-γ release assay in patients with culture-confirmed tuberculosis
Respiratory Medicine Oct 16, 2019
Huang CT, et al. - Among patients with culture-confirmed tuberculosis, researchers investigated if there exists a link between mitogen response and outcomes. This study included 466 culture-confirmed tuberculosis patients and 309(66%) had positive QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube(QFT-GIT). They assessed the links between patient results and QFT-GIT as well as interferon-γ responses to the mitogen, focusing on 1-year death following tuberculosis diagnosis and 2-month culture conversion. Findings revealed worse 1-year survival in relation to a lower mitogen response in tuberculosis patients. Also, the correlation of a lower mitogen response with 2-month culture persistence was observed in patients with sputum smear-positive culture-confirmed tuberculosis. Another purpose of QFT-GIT for prognostication of tuberculosis patients was suggested in this study.
