Prognostic significance of systemic arterial stiffness evaluated by cardio- ankle vascular index in patients with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension
Vascular Health and Risk Management Mar 17, 2021
Radchenko GD, et al. - In this study with 89 patients, the associations between survival and cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) were assessed among patients suffering from idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). Participants were free from concomitant diseases. Patients were split based on CAVI value: the group with CAVI ≥ 8 (n = 18) and the group with CAVI < 8 (n = 71). Significantly decreased end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes of the left ventricle, the higher right ventricle thickness, and the lower TAPSE were detected in cases with CAVI ≥ 8. A 2.34 times raised risk of mortality was noted in relation to CAVI ≥ 8. Based on findings, it was inferred that CAVI could serve as a new independent predictor of death in patients suffering from IPAH and better risk stratification of this patient group could be offered by CAVI if it obtained validation as a marker in a larger multicenter trial.
