Prognostic significance of HPV and p16 status in men diagnosed with penile cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Jul 16, 2018
Sand FL, et al. - In men diagnosed with penile cancer, Researchers explored the link between HPV DNA and p16 status and survival by analyzing data obtained through a search of multiple electronic databases. The analysis included 20 studies. They used a fixed effects model to calculate study-specific and pooled hazard ratios of overall survival and disease specific survival. The evidence from this analysis revealed a significantly more favorable disease specific survival in men with HPV or p16 positive penile cancer vs men with HPV or p16 negative penile cancer. In the planning of the most optimal management and follow-up strategy, possible clinical value of HPV and p16 testing was suggested.
