Prognostic and therapeutic significance of androgen receptor in patients with gastric cancer
OncoTargets and Therapy Oct 07, 2020
Soleymani Fard S, Yazdanbod M, Sotoudeh M, et al. - Researchers focused on expression profile of androgen receptor (AR) as well as EMT-related genes in fresh gastric cancer (GC), adjacent nontumor and normal gastric tissues. They also explored the impact as well as the molecular mechanisms of AR inhibition in GC cell lines. AR overexpression was noted in 66.7% of 60 GC patients and was shown to be remarkably correlated with the overexpression of Snail, β-catenin, Twist1, and STAT3. Following adjustment with other variables, concurrent overexpression of AR and Snail was identified as an independent unfavorable factor for GC overall survival. Overall, experts suggest a crucial role of AR as a prognostic factor implicated in GC progression as well as metastasis. Also, AR inhibition was inferred to be an appealing treatment approach for GC patients, either as a single agent or in a combined-modal strategy.
