Prognosis of three histological subtypes of colorectal adenocarcinoma: A retrospective analysis of 8005 Chinese patients
Cancer Medicine May 17, 2019
Li C, et al. - Researchers determined how clinical outcomes in colorectal adenocarcinoma differed by histological subtypes. They also looked at the prognostic implications of mucinous adenocarcinomas (MAC) and signet ring cell carcinomas (SRCC) vs classic adenocarcinomas (AC). Participants were 7502 AC, 428 MAC and 75 SRCC patients who had undergone definitive surgery between 2007 and 2015 at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. A significantly lower 5-year overall survival (OS) was experienced by patients with SRCC as compared to that seen in patients with MAC and AC, while MAC vs AC had a much lower 5-year OS. MAC and SRCC were characterized by rare incidence, a higher T stage, N stage as well as a higher incidence of lymphovascular and nerve invasion. However, decreased survival in multivariate analysis was not independently predicted by MAC or SRCC.
