Procalcitonin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein in acute pulmonary exacerbations of cystic fibrosis
The Clinical Respiratory Journal Sep 19, 2017
Loh G, et al. - The current study was interested in distinguishing inflammatory markers that could help identify the need for antibiotics and exacerbation as well as predict the risk of exacerbations. Findings revealed that ESR and CRP were both useful markers for cystic fibrosis exacerbations, as levels rise with exacerbations. In addition, baseline elevations in ESR and CRP were seen to show an increased risk for cystic fibrosis exacerbations. Procalcitonin, in contrast, was not a useful inflammatory marker.
