Borges NA, et al. - Researchers analyzed the changes in gut microbiota profile and inflammatory markers in association with probiotic supplementation in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (HD). Findings revealed that as a result of probiotic supplementation in these subjects, no reduction in uremic toxins and inflammatory markers was evident. Therefore, caution was recommended when selecting a probiotic therapy for HD patients.
