Prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea in children with Down syndrome: A meta-analysis
Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine May 18, 2018
Lee CF, et al. - Study authors attempted to determine the incidence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children with Down syndrome. They independently searched databases, namely PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Review database. Using a random-effects model, the prevalence of OSA, based on apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) greater than 1, 1.5, 2, 5, and 10 event/hour, was estimated. The results of this meta-analysis suggested that OSA was highly prevalent in children with Down syndrome. They reported that prevalence of moderate to severe OSA was higher in younger age.
