Prevalence of growth hormone deficiency in previously GH-treated young adults with Prader-Willi syndrome

Clinical Endocrinology Apr 17, 2019

Donze SH, et al. - In young adults with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) previously treated with growth hormone (GH) (n=60), researchers studied the GH/IGF-I axis and the prevalence of growth hormone deficiency (GHD). The data presented in this work showed a lower GH peak was significantly associated with a higher BMI and a higher fat mass percentage. Between patients with a deletion or a maternal uniparental disomy, no significant difference was seen in GH peak. According to this cross-sectional study, almost 1 in 7 showed a GH peak <9 μg/l during a GHRH-Arginine test in a large group of previously GH-treated young adults with PWS. The consensus criteria for adult GHD were not met by any of the patients.
