Prevalence of gestational diabetes and subsequent type 2 diabetes among U.S. women
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice May 19, 2018
Casagrande SS, et al. - Researchers ascertained the prevalence of gestational diabetes (GDM) and a subsequent diagnosis of diabetes in a nationally representative sample of U.S. women. By sociodemographic and health-related characteristics, the crude and age-adjusted prevalence of GDM and subsequent diabetes were assessed among women aged ≥20 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 2007-2014. The present data indicated that the prevalence of GDM in the U.S. was 7.6%. Findings revealed that 19.7% had a subsequent diagnosis of diabetes among women with GDM. They suggested that women with GDM, family history of diabetes, and obesity should be monitored for dysglycemia.
