Compared to people without periodontitis, the overall prevalence and odds of having diabetes were higher within periodontitis populations. The prevalence was underestimated by self-reported diabetes when compared to this condition assessed clinically. They observed the geographical differences: In studies conducted in Asia, the highest diabetes prevalence among subjects with periodontitis was observed and the lowest in studies originating from Europe.
