Prevalence of central vein stenosis in patients referred for vein mapping
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology May 25, 2018
Tedla FM, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers determined the prevalence of central vein stenosis in adult CKD patients who had bilateral upper extremity venographic vein mapping from September 1, 2011 to December 31, 2015. Disparities in clinical or demographic features were compared between patients with and without stenosis. Using multiple logistic regression, they identified independent links between patient characteristics and central vein stenosis. The observed prevalence of central vein stenosis was 10% for the whole group. Among patients with tunneled central venous dialysis catheters, a prevalence of 13% was reported. As observed, the following showed an independent association with central vein stenosis: current use of tunneled hemodialysis catheters, presence of cardiac rhythm devices, previous history of fistula or graft, and history of previous kidney transplant.
