Prevalence, clinical characteristics, and predictors of peripheral arterial disease in hemodialysis patients: A cross-sectional study
BMC Nephrology Aug 01, 2019
Ašćerić RR, Dimković NB, Trajković GZ, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis of 156 hemodialysis patients, researchers focused on the prevalence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) as well as its risk factors. They analyzed comorbidities and laboratory parameters. They also carried out clinical examinations, and thereafter, measured the ankle-brachial index in all patients. Relying on clinical revelations (ankle-brachial index < 0.9) and PAD symptoms, a diagnosis of PAD was made. Findings revealed a high prevalence of PAD among patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis. The independent predictors of PAD identified in these patients were symptoms of PAD, higher C-reactive protein levels, and Hickman vascular access.
