Prevalence and incidence of non-gout crystal arthropathy in southern Sweden
Arthritis Research & Therapy Dec 26, 2019
Hameed M, et al. - Researchers identified all individuals (age ≥ 18 years) with at least one interview to a physician with the diagnosis of interest in the Skåne region (population of 1.3 million) in 1998–2014 in order to determine the prevalence and incidence of non-gout crystal arthropathy in association with socioeconomic factors in southern Sweden. Overall, in comparison with gout in southern Sweden, the prevalence of all diagnosed non-gout crystal arthropathies was 0.23%, therefore considerably less prevalent. Moreover, crystal aggregation in relation to arthropathy and other indefinite non-gout crystal arthropathies were the predominant diagnoses, progressing with age and in males. Further, with the exception of indefinite non-gout crystal arthropathies being inversely associated with a greater level of education, no convincing correlation with the socioeconomic factors was seen.
