Prescription opioid use patterns, use disorder diagnoses and addiction treatment receipt after the 2014 Medicaid expansion in Oregon
Addiction Jul 05, 2019
Springer R, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers compared Oregon state residents who had been continuously insured by Medicaid, were newly insured following Medicaid expansion in 2014, or returned to Medicaid coverage after expansion, for the prevalence of receiving opioid prescriptions and of opioid use disorder (OUD), along with time from OUD diagnosis to receiving medication-assisted treatment (MAT). According to the findings, the likelihood of opioid administration, chronic opioid use, receiving OUD diagnoses as well as MAT following OUD diagnosis was less among newly and returning insured enrollees vs the continuously insured enrollees.
