Preoperative risk assessment for progression to DMEK following cataract surgery in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy
American Journal of Ophthalmology Aug 04, 2019
Arnalich-Montiel F, et al. - In this prospective, observational cohort study, researches identified preoperative corneal tomographic characteristics that anticipate progression to endothelial keratoplasty (EK) after cataract surgery in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD) and established a regression model to identify patients at high risk. This investigation was performed at Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, Madrid. The study sample consisted of 68 patients (84 eyes) with FECD who had phacoemulsification. According to findings, both scores (RISC & RIPT) showed accuracy in predicting progress to EK using preoperative data that was easily accessible. This approach, which surgeons can easily implement, allows individualized risk assessment.
