Preoperative intravitreal bevacizumab for tractional retinal detachment secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy: Prospective randomized clinical trial of the Pan-American Collaborative Retina Study (PACORES) Group
American Journal of Ophthalmology May 19, 2019
Arevalo JF, et al. - In this study with 224 eyes of 224 patients having tractional retinal detachment secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy, researchers compared efficacy as well as safety of an intravitreal injection of 1.25 mg of bevacizumab (IVB) as a preoperative adjunct to small-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) vs PPV alone. They performed a baseline exam including best corrected visual acuity, color photos, optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography on all eyes. They observed attenuated bleeding, improved surgical field visualization, as well as a reduction in intraoperative and postoperative complications in relation to preoperative IVB.
